2021 Nissan Altima - Performance Features and Price in Calgary

Powertrain and Performance

The standard Altima powertrain is based around 2.5L four-cylinder engine making 188 horsepower, passed via a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. This configuration offers healthy performance, and the all-wheel drive in particular is a welcome feature that's rarer in a sedan than it should be.

Moving up a level, the optional 2.0L turbo mill ups the horsepower to 248hp, again paired with a CVT. This powertrain makes the Altima significantly quicker, with the driving experience enhanced by tight cornering grip and a responsively firm brake pedal.

Fuel Economy

The 2.5L engine provides attractive fuel economy figures of 8.4L / 100km in the city and 6.0L / 100km on the highway, showing one of the real advantages of the sedan format over bulkier, heavier SUVs. Even the high-powered turbo engine has good figures, managing 9.4L in the city and 6.9L on the highway, highly commendable for a car of this power.

Interior and Cargo

The interior of the Altima will cause few complaints, providing a spacious cabin that's well designed and generally upscale without being ostentatious. The back seats in particular offer plenty of legroom, while the padded side armrests add a touch of high-end comfort.

As a sedan, the Altima provides an ample 436L of storage in the cargo space. The rear seats can also be folded down to provide extra room for bulkier items.

Infotainment Features

Except for the base model, every trim in the 2021 Altima lineup boasts an 8" touchscreen complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility. Built-in navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot facility are both optional extras, while the standard sound can be upgraded to a nine-speaker Bose audio system.

Safety Record and Technology

The 2021 Altima earned a five-star crash test rating by the NHTSA, the highest score available, and the last year's model to be tested by the IIHS earned a Top Safety Pick. As well as the high physical safety, there are a range of active technology options available, with the main choices including:

  • Lane departure warnings and lane keep assist.
  • Automated rear emergency braking.
  • Adaptive cruise control.
  • Blindspot monitor.
  • ABS brakes, traction control, and electronic stability control.

MSRP (Prices)

The Altima 2.5 SE has a starting price of just $29,498, rising to $35, 498 for the top-level Platinum trim.
