2018 Nissan Qashqai Review

2018 Nissan Qashqai Review

Overview

Sleek, stylish, roomy, economical, and
luxurious, all describe the 2018 Nissan Qashqai. No other crossover on
the market offers the same level of value, technology, sporty good looks, and
just plain driving pleasure as the Qashqai. Nissan offers the Qashqai in three
trims - S, SV, and SL, and in both FWD and AWD. Available in eight-exterior and
four-interior colours means even the most demanding buyers will find a colour
combination to suit their taste.

Entertainment

What's especially nice about the Qashqai is that
even the base "S" model comes standard with many features that were
considered add-ons in most vehicles, just a few years ago. Every Qashqai comes
with a colour touchscreen display, MP3/WMA CD playback capability, a USB port
for compatible devices, and Bluetooth wireless connectivity for streaming music
or making calls. The SV and SL trims get an extra two speakers (totaling six),
and SiriusXM satellite radio.

Interior

Usually, only luxury brands offer heated seats
on base models but, Nissan does on many of their vehicles, and the Qashqai is
no exception. Every Qashqai also comes standard with full power, air
conditioning, front bucket seats, and remote a keyless entry system with alarm,
panic, and remote rear-hatch release buttons. A move up to the SV trim adds a
heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, Remote Engine Start, Dual Zone Automatic
Climate Control, and Nissan Intelligent Key with Push-Button Ignition.
Leather-appointed seats come standard on the SL version.

Safety

Safety comes first at Nissan. Along with front,
side, and roof-mounted airbags, every Qashqai also comes equipped with Nissan's
Vehicle Dynamic Control with Traction Control System. SV and SL models come
with Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert at no extra charge. The
Qashqai SL takes safety even further with included Moving Object Detection and
optional Lane Departure Warning and Intelligent Lane Intervention systems.

Technology

Always a leader when it comes to technology,
Nissan seems to add more and more standard tech, every year. Included on all
Qashqai trims are:

•   The Nissan Advanced
Drive-Assist Display - A small LCD screen located on the instrument cluster
between the RPM and KPH gauges. The 4.3-inch screen displays a variety of
information including incoming calls, text messages, and service warnings.
•   Siri Eyes Free - Lets
iPhone users tap into their phones Siri feature.
•   Five or Seven Inch
Colour Display - The S and SV model come with a five-inch colour display while
the SL trim gets a larger seven-inch screen. The
SL also comes with Nissan Voice Recognition for audio and navigation at no
extra charge.

Performance

A 141 HP 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder
engine powers all three trims. Nissan's Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable
Transmission) comes standard on SV and SL models and as an option on the S
trim. AWD is available as an option on the S and SV versions, and the only
choice on the top-of-the-line SL. Economy-wise, the 6-speed manual transmission
gets a thrifty 8.1/10, while the automatic with FWD gets 7.3/8.8, and the
automatic teamed with AWD gets 7.5/9.0. All figures are highway/city, litres
per 100 Km.
