Posted on December 10, 2019
As two of the most popular sedans in the world, the Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry offer exceptional levels of initial quality, dependability, and resale value. With similar MSRPs, fuel economy numbers, and warranties, the two may seem almost identical to many buyers. But, of course, they are not. Here's a rundown on the similarities and differences between the 2020 Nissan Altima vs. the 2020 Toyota Camry.
Entertainment and Technology
Both sedans come with top-notch Infotainment systems. The Altima's system features a 203-mm colour touchscreen interface, six speakers, and Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling and music streaming. SiriusXM Satellite Radio with a complimentary three-month trial also comes at no extra charge on all Altima trims. Base Camry models come with a smaller 178-mm touchscreen and lack factory-installed SiriusXM. The infotainment systems on both vehicles also feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
Interior Comfort
When it comes to interior space, the Altima and Camry offer about the same amount of overall comfort. The Altima, however, accommodates taller front passengers a bit better with 995-mm of front headroom compared to 973-mm for the Camry. The Altima also wins the front legroom battle with 1,114-mm as opposed to the Camry's 1069-mm. Base models of both vehicles come with heated front seats, cloth upholstery, and rear foldable 60/40 Seats. The Altima also comes with an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat with 2-way power lumbar support compared to the Camry's 6-way manually adjustable driver's seat.
Safety
Both Nissan and Toyota make some of the safest vehicles on the road today. Features like Vehicle Stability Control, anti-lock brakes, and Electronic Brake Force Distribution, come standard on all models of each. The Altima also comes with Intelligent Ride Control, Intelligent Trace Control, and Intelligent Driver Alertness systems on every trim.
Performance
The two vehicles come with similar powertrains, with one major difference. Base Camry models come from the factory with a 2.5L 4-cylinder Atkinson engine linked to an automatic sequential shift mode transmission with front-wheel drive. The Altima comes standard with a similar 2.5-litre Direct Injection 4-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable transmission and Nissan's Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.
